Planning a meeting across time zones

Add every city your team or clients are in, then move the time until it lands inside working hours for everyone. Used this way, the converter works as a time difference calculator for your whole team. A few tips that make it easier:

Popular time differences

CityOffset from UTCNotes
New YorkUTC-5 / UTC-4Daylight saving from March to November
LondonUTC+0 / UTC+1British Summer Time from late March to late October
DubaiUTC+4No daylight saving
Delhi and MumbaiUTC+5:30No daylight saving
DhakaUTC+6No daylight saving
SingaporeUTC+8No daylight saving
TokyoUTC+9No daylight saving
SydneyUTC+10 / UTC+11Daylight saving from October to April

Because daylight saving starts and ends on different dates around the world, the difference between two cities can change for a few weeks each year. That is exactly why it is worth checking the specific date instead of relying on a fixed number.

Frequently asked questions

Does the converter handle daylight saving time?

Yes. It uses the time zone rules built into your browser, which are updated with your browser and operating system. Clocks moving forward or back in places like the US, UK and Australia are taken into account for the date you pick.

Can I type a country or city name?

Yes. Type a city like Dhaka, London or Tokyo and pick it from the list, or type a country name like Bangladesh or India, or an abbreviation like EST or PST. When you click away, the box changes to the official time zone name.

Why do some places have half hour differences?

A few countries use offsets that are not whole hours. India is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of UTC, Nepal is 5 hours 45 minutes ahead and parts of Australia are 9 hours 30 minutes ahead. The converter shows these correctly.

What is the difference between UTC and GMT?

For everyday use they show the same time. GMT is a time zone used by the UK in winter, while UTC is the world's reference time standard that never changes for daylight saving. Time zones are usually written as an offset from UTC, like UTC+6.

Does the clock update by itself?

Yes. When the page opens it shows the current time everywhere and updates every second. As soon as you choose your own date or time, it stops so you can compare that moment. Click "Use current time" to make it live again.

What does "+1 day" mean?

It means the converted time falls on the next calendar day compared with the date you entered. For example, 9 PM in New York is already the next morning in Dhaka.
