How to remove extra spaces
- Paste your text into the top box.
- Tick the clean up options you want. The defaults work well for most text.
- Copy the cleaned version from the result box. The line under it tells you how many characters were removed.
What each option does
- Turn multiple spaces into one: "Hello world" becomes "Hello world".
- Trim spaces at start and end of lines: removes invisible spaces that cause messy alignment and failed matches.
- Replace tabs with spaces: useful when text copied from a table has tabs between words. Combine it with the first option to get single spaces.
- Convert special spaces: changes non-breaking spaces and other unusual space characters into normal ones.
- Reduce several empty lines to one: keeps paragraph breaks but removes big gaps.
- Remove all empty lines: packs every line together with no gaps, handy for lists.
Why extra spaces cause trouble
You cannot see a trailing space, but computers can. "London " with a space at the end is a different value from "London" in a spreadsheet, so VLOOKUP fails and your filters show two entries for the same city. In code and CSV files, stray spaces can break imports. In documents, double spaces make justified text look uneven. A quick pass through this tool avoids all of that.
