How to remove duplicate lines
- Paste your list into the top box with one item on each line.
- Choose whether differences in capital letters or spaces should matter.
- Copy the unique list from the result box. The status line shows how many duplicates were removed.
Common uses
- Email and contact lists: combine lists from several sign up forms without emailing anyone twice.
- Keyword research: merge keyword exports from different tools and remove the overlap.
- Product codes and order numbers: find out how many unique items you really have.
- Log files: collapse repeated error messages so you can see the different problems.
- Tags and hashtags: tidy up a list you have built over time.
Copying from a spreadsheet
Select a single column in Excel or Google Sheets and copy it. Each cell becomes one line when you paste it here. After removing duplicates, copy the result and paste it back into an empty column. If your cells have trailing spaces, keep "Ignore spaces at start and end" ticked so "Paris" and "Paris " are treated as the same.
Tip: duplicate checks are exact. "Jon Smith" and "John Smith" are different lines. For lists typed by hand, sort them first with our line sorter so near matches end up next to each other and are easy to spot.
