How to use the discount calculator
- Type the original price from the price tag.
- Enter the discount percent, for example 25 for "25% off".
- If there is a second discount, like a coupon code or member offer, add it in Extra discount.
- Add your local sales tax if prices are shown without tax where you live.
The final price and your savings update as you type, so you can quickly compare a few options in the shop.
Worked example
A jacket costs 120. The shop has 30% off everything, and you have a coupon for an extra 10%. Sales tax is 8%.
- 30% off 120 = 84
- Extra 10% off 84 = 75.60
- 8% tax on 75.60 = 6.05, so you pay 81.65
- You save 44.40 before tax, a total discount of 37%
Smart shopping tips
- Compare the final price, not the percent. 40% off at one shop can still cost more than 20% off somewhere else if the starting price is higher.
- Watch out for "up to". "Up to 70% off" usually means only a few items get the biggest discount.
- Check the price history. Some sellers raise prices just before a sale. A browser price tracker can show you if a deal is real.
- Factor in shipping. A small discount online can disappear once delivery fees are added.
