Frequently asked questions
How do I add VAT to a price?
Multiply the price by the VAT rate and add the result. For 15 percent VAT on 1,000: 1,000 × 0.15 = 150 VAT, so the total is 1,150.
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the total by 1 plus the VAT rate. For a price of 1,150 that includes 15 percent VAT: 1,150 ÷ 1.15 = 1,000 before VAT. A common mistake is to take 15 percent off the total, which gives 977.50 and is wrong.
What is the VAT rate in Bangladesh?
The standard VAT rate in Bangladesh is 15 percent, with reduced rates for some goods and services. Rates can change with each year's budget, so check the latest rate from the National Board of Revenue for official use.
Is VAT the same as sales tax?
They work differently behind the scenes but look similar to shoppers. VAT is charged at each step of the supply chain, while US sales tax is only added at the final sale. For the price you pay, the math is the same, so this calculator works for sales tax and GST too.
